Tulagi or Tulaghi was the capital of the Solomon Islands before WWII. It is the main town and island in the Florida Islands, located in the centre of the Solomon Islands just north of Honiara. In between you can find Iron Bottom Sound, an eight hundred meter deep channel named after the many wrecks (hence the iron) that rest on the bottom of it. It is possible to book daytrips to this paradise from Honiara, but we strongly suggest staying at these beautiful islands. Tulaghi, today the capital of the Central Province, is a 5km long and 1km wide island just south of Nggela Sule, the largest Florida Island.

The Tulagi area is great for diving. Besides the already stunning reef formations, diversity and colorful marine world, there are also plenty of shipwrecks and airplane wrecks. You can dive the destroyer Aaron Ward, the American oil tanker USS Kanawha or the only New Zealand wreck in Tulagi, the HMNZ Moa. Another very popular dive site is the cave system at Twin Tunnels where you literally descent tens of meters to be greeted by reef sharks when you exit at great depths. It is one of the more remote scuba destinations perfect for wreck enthusiasts but a bit less for snorkelers and beginning divers since many wrecks are deep.
